We have created a file of all counties and the counties which they share a common boundary (contiguous counties), including if the shared boundary is a waterway. This is a current contiguous county data file, developed in 2009.

The data fields are as follows:

• State abbreviation and FIPS code.
• County FIPS code and name.
• For each bordering county it will also have the above fields, along with the number of shared map points along the border. This can be used to determine the approximate distance of the shared border.

The cost of this file is $500 for a single user of this data. Contact us for other uses. The file is available in XML or CSV formats.
